1.Container Gardening

 

   Container gardening or pot gardening is the practice of growing plants, including edible plants, exclusively in containers instead of planting them in the ground. A container in gardening is a small, enclosed and usually portable object used for displaying live flowers or plants. It may take the form of a pot, box tub, basket, tin, barrel or hanging basket . They can be found on porches, front steps, and  in urban locations-on rooftops. Sub-irrigated planters are a type of container that may be used in container gardens.

   Containers range from simple plastic pots, to teacups, to complex automatically watered irrigation systems. It helps control pests and overcome soil issues, enabling the availability of home grown fresh produce without a yard.

2. Raised bed Gardening     

   Raised-bed gardening is a form of gardening in which the soil is enclosed in three-to-four-foot-wide (1.0–1.2 m) containment units "beds", which are usually made of wood, rock, or concrete and which can be of any length or shape. The soil is raised above the surrounding soil (approximately six inches to waist high) and may be enriched with compost. Vegetable plants are spaced in geometric patterns, much closer together than in conventional row gardening.

 They can be used effectively to control erosion and recycle and conserve water and nutrients by building them along contour lines on slopes. This also makes more space available for intensive crop production. They can be created over large areas with the use of several commonly available tractor-drawn implements and efficiently maintained, planted and harvested using hand tools.

3. Hydroponic Gardening

  

  Hydroponics is a type of horticulture or method of growing plants without soil .which involves growing plants (usually crops) without soil, by using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent. Terrestrial plants may grow with their roots exposed to the nutritious liquid, or in addition, the roots may be physically supported by an inert medium such as perlite, gravel, or other substrates. 

 It can help solve problems without excessive use of space or water, are known to produce vegetables with high nutrient content, and produce vegetables faster than traditional growing methods.

4. Vertical Gardening

   Vertical gardening is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers. It often incorporates controlled-environment agriculture, which aims to optimize plant growth, and soilless farming techniques such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and aeroponics. Some common choices of structures of vertical gardening systems include buildings, shipping containers, tunnels, and abandoned mine shafts.

 The main advantage of utilizing vertical farming technologies is the increased crop yield that comes with a smaller unit area of land requirement. The increased ability to cultivate a larger variety of crops at once. And crops are resistant to weather disruptions.

5. Traditional Inground Gardening

   Traditional gardening is a practice of  growing and cultivating plants as part of horticulture. In gardens, ornamental plants are often grown for their flowers, foliage,  useful plants, such as root vegetables, leaf vegetables, fruits, and herbs, are grown for consumption, for use as dyes, or for medicinal or cosmetic use.

  Gardening ranges in scale from fruit orchards, to long boulevard plantings with one or more different types of shrubs, trees, and herbaceous plants, to residential back gardens including lawns and foundation plantings. Gardening may be very specialized, with only one type of plant grown, or involve a variety of plants in mixed plantings. It involves an active participation in the growing of plants, and tends to be labor-intensive.

6. Key hole Gardening

        A key hole gardening is a two-meter-wide circular raised garden with a keyhole-shaped indentation on one side. The indentation allows gardeners to add uncooked vegetable scraps, greywater, and manure into a composting basket that sits in the center of the bed. In this way, composting materials can be added to the basket throughout the growing season to provide nutrients for the plants. The upper layer of soil is hilled up against the center basket so the soil slopes gently down from the center to the sides. 

       Most keyhole gardens rise about one meter above the ground and have walls made of stone. The stone wall not only gives the garden its form, but helps trap moisture within the bed. Keyhole gardens originated in Lesotho and are well adapted to dry arid lands and deserts. Keyhole gardens are ideal for intensive planting, a technique in which plants are placed close together to maximize production.

7. Key hole Gardening

       Roof garden is a garden on the roof of a building. Besides the decorative benefit, roof plantings may provide food, temperature control, hydrological benefits, architectural enhancement, habitats or corridors for wildlife, recreational opportunities, and in large scale it may even have ecological benefits. The practice of cultivating food on the rooftop of buildings is sometimes referred to as rooftop farming.

   It can be established in a best manner with the availability of sun light and water. Plants produce quality fruits and vegetables by using sunlight and water. Since there is not enough place in the flats these days, this garden can be laid on roof tops, there by effectively utilizing the available space on the roof tops. In multistoried buildings, not all the apartments have a roof.  Thus the pots can be placed in the verandah and window sills.

8.Mittlieder Gardening
